JI to register anger at electricity bills, inflation

MARDAN: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Mardan chapter, has announced plans to set up protest camps at eight different locations starting today (Tuesday), and to fully participate in a sit-in at Islamabad on July 12, against electricity bills and inflation, following a call by JI central chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

Addressing a news conference at the Mardan Press Club, JI district amir Ghulam Rasool, along with naib amir Fazal Rabbani advocate, Mian Nader Shah, Saeed Akhtar advocate, and information secretary Manzoorul Haq, condemned the recent bomb blast in Jalala area of Takhtbhai tehsil.

He demanded the government announce a compensation of Rs2 million for the martyred and Rs1 million for the injured, as well as a judicial inquiry into the incident. Ghulam Rasool criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party , accusing them of being imposed on the people and labelling the central government as a creation of “Forum 47”.

He also criticised the PTI provincial government, stating that its focus was on the release of Imran Khan and had ignored the masses of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.He announced preparations for the Islamabad sit-in, and hoped thousands of workers from Mardan would participate in the protest.

Awareness camps will be set up throughout the district, with 40 large billboards and 100,000 invitation handbills distributed to motivate people to join the sit-in.The procession for the Islamabad sit-in will pass through Malakand Chowk, PRC Chowk, and College Chowk in Mardan district on July 13, with over 5,000 workers expected to turn up there.
