LAHORE: The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has taken suo motu notice and requested the District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ghazi Khan to provide a comprehensive report regarding the torture of a woman.

A video has gone viral on social media showing a woman’s nose being cut with a knife by her family members while her feet are tied with a rope. The woman is begging for death in the Seraiki language, pleading for her life to be ended rather than having her nose cut. Blood can be seen trickling down from her nose in the video.

The NCHR asked the DPO DG Khan to provide the FIR and a detailed report on the incident. Nadeem Ashraf, Commissioner of NCHR Punjab, stated, “It is our mission to protect and promote human rights. Whenever NCHR sees a violation of human rights, we take suo motu action. We act as a watchdog over state machinery to respond to such violations. We have directed the DPO to provide us with a detailed report.”

When contacted, Syed Ali the DPO DG Khan said: “The video could be from Muzaffargarh or DG Khan. The video was attributed to a girl who was called to the police station, where she claimed that her nose was not cut but rather she was defamed.”

The scribe further asked whether the viral video belonged to his police jurisdiction. The DPO replied that the girl’s accent could be from South Punjab, however, he would check the video to ensure justice was served if the girl’s nose was indeed cut within the limits of DG Khan.

He emphasized that as a custodian of human rights, it is the police’s responsibility to ensure the security of citizens. According to social media reports, the incident occurred in the area of Shah Sadar Deen police station. The video shows individuals cutting a woman’s nose with a knife.
