It is highly unjustified and inappropriate to impose fixed taxes/charges on gas and electricity bills in addition to normal consumption charges and other allied taxes already being charged by the concerned companies. Instead of imposing fixed charges on utility bills, the government should try to reduce its own undesirable expenses. A good start would be cutting down the bloated number of cabinet members, advisors and special assistants, whose expenses will ultimately be borne by the public through the use of such undesirable taxes. In addition to the above, the people of Karachi will now reportedly have to pay municipal taxes in KE bills.
It should also be noted that every individual is paying taxes because GST is charged based on each and every aspect. Therefore, the policy regarding non-filers should be abolished and the imposition of penalties along with the travel ban should immediately be removed. The government should understand that, given the country’s conditions, it is nigh impossible for everyone, if not most, to file income taxes? I am unable to understand the ways in which such people try to implement orders which are practically impossible for the general population to adhere to.
