ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has denied any decision about interdiction on social media for limited period during the Muharram-ul-Haram.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior when contacted by The News, categorically denied the news item shown on the TV channels that the federal government rejected the request of the provincial governments regarding ban on the social media for limited period during the Muharram-ul-Haram, saying that no such decision has been made till the time.
The spokesman said that no province could decide to put ban on social media during the Muharram-ul-Haram, adding that it is prerogative of the ministry for interior to direct Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ban on the social media.
“The decision of putting ban on social media could be made on Saturday after a meeting of authorities concerned,” the spokesman concluded.
