SBCA razes illegal constructions in South, East districts
The Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) demolition squad razed various illegal structures on Friday in District East and District South of Karachi.
The demolitions took place on the directives of SBCA Director General Abdul Rasheed Solangi. According to a statement issued by the SBCA, the illegal constructions razed on Friday included unauthorised additional floors, illegal portions and other violations of land use.
Warning banners were placed on dangerous buildings in District South and announcements were made via mobile loudspeakers in the vicinity. In District East, an operation was taken on plot No B-66, Muslim CHS Scheme 33 where the third-floor reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roofs were demolished, on plot No A-273, Block 7, KAECHS where third-floor RCC roofs were taken down, plot No 1/A-29, State Bank KAECHS where ground floor partition walls and RCC columns were demolished, plot No R-01, KDA Employees CHS, Scheme 33 where an illegal shop was demolished, plot No A-23, Gulshan Iqbal Block 13/D/3, Baloch Goth where partition walls were demolished and plot No A-99 where the sixth-floor RCC roof, partition walls and front constructions were demolished.
The SBCA statement said that the demolition team faced significant resistance from large crowds during the operations, leading to some illegal constructions being sealed amidst the turmoil. Additional demolitions in District East included plot No 655, Manzoor Colony where basement constructions were demolished, plot No 1227, Street No 19, Azam Basti where the fourth and fifth floors were completely demolished and plot No 1800, Street No 26 where fourth, fifth and sixth floors were demolished.
In District South, operation was carried out on the main Chakiwara Road, Lyari where sixth-floor partition walls and RCC roof were demolished. On plot No 30, Artillery Maidan, Saddar, illegal booking office partition walls, roof and rolling shutters of shops were demolished, and the premises sealed.
During these operations, warning banners were placed on dangerous buildings to alert residents and users, and warnings were issued via loudspeakers to get the premises vacated.
