SUKKUR: A Jirga on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs63.6 million on the feuding clans of Sawand and Sundhrani.
The feud has claimed 30 lives in Kashmore and Kandhkot districts. Prof Dr Ajmal Sawand of the IBA University Sukkur is among the victims.
The Jirga met on Thursday at the Mahar Palace Khangarh in District Ghotki. Influential politicians attended the 10-hour Jirga and convinced the clans to end their feud.
The Jirga fixed Rs2 million compensation for the murder of each man and Rs4 million for each woman.
The Jirga fixed Rs1100,000 as fine for the damaged car of Prof Ajmal Sawand Khan.
The Jirga fixed Rs10 million as compensation for the murder of Dr Ajmal Sawand and Rs10 million for the murder of Advocate Noorullah Sundhrani. The Jirga imposed a fine of Rs31.5 million on the Sundhrani tribe for the murder of 13 people of the Sawand clan.
A fine of Rs32.1 million and Rs2.1 million was imposed on the Sawand tribe for the murder of 11 people.
The Jirga fixed Rs200 million fine if any clan violates its decision.The Sawand clan paid Rs1.1 million to the Sundhrani tribe on the spot while the Sundhranis paid Rs2 million to the Sawands. The Jirga also investigated the cause of the feud which stemmed from a Karo Kari issue.
