Municipal chairman named in Gadani murder case as accused suspended
The Sindh government has suspended Shehbaz Loond, the municipal chairman of Mirpur Mathelo and a nominated accused in journalist Nasrullah Gadani’s murder case.
Local journalist Nasrullah Gadani was killed in an attack by armed men on May 25. The murder case was registered against unknown persons at the Mirpur Mathelo police station. On June 27, eyewitnesses named as accused a member of the National Assembly, his two sons, Town Chairman Shehbaz Loond and Noor Muhammad Loond, in the murder case before the trial court.
The Sindh government has now suspended Shehbaz Loond by acting under Section 120, Subsection 3 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance Section 120. The suspension came following a demand from journalists from across Sindh, who have been protesting in Karachi. They have demanded swift justice in the case.
The accused persons, including the suspended municipal chairman, have obtained protective bail from the Sindh High Court in the murder case. Journalist leaders Ghazi Jhandir and Nimat Kharo have called the suspension of Shehbaz Loond as the first step towards justice in the murder case.
