Steps taken to maintain peace during Muharram, elders assured

KOHAT: The top officials here on Thursday assured the elders that all necessary steps had been taken to maintain peace during Muharram.

Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chaudhry Nadeem Aslam, along with Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan and Additional Chief Secretary Home Department Abid Majeed, visited Kohat district and chaired a Jirga of Sunni and Shia elders.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief secretary emphasised on the roles of various institutions in promoting religious tolerance and suppressing elements that incite chaos and hatred.“No-one will be allowed to disturb the peaceful atmosphere, and stern legal action would be taken against troublemakers, regardless of their religion and sect,” said the chief secretary.

He stressed that peace should be maintained not only during Muharram but throughout the year. He also highlighted the importance of unity among scholars from different schools of thought to promote peace.

IGP Akhtar Hayat Khan thanked the jirga leaders and assured them that the police were vigilant and fully prepared to handle any challenges. He praised the commitment to peace and solidarity shown by the community.

The meeting was attended by members of the National and Provincial Assemblies of Kohat Division, Commissioner Kohat Division Abid Khan Wazir, Regional Police Officer Sher Akbar Khan, Deputy Commissioner Kohat Dr Azmatullah Wazir, Deputy Commissioner Hangu Haider Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Orakzai Tayyab Abdullah, Deputy Commissioner Kurram Javedullah Mehsud, District Police Officer Kohat Umar Khan, Pakistan Army officers, police officers, and district administration officials.
