PESHAWAR: Contractor Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has warned of staging a protest outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly if the government failed to resolve the issues facing contractors.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Association president Malik Riaz Khan asked the government to constitute a high-level inquiry committee into the funds distribution and

take action against the corrupt elements.

He alleged that development schemes worth billions of rupees could not be completed as the officials at the Communication and Works Department were demanding a commission to release funds.

He claimed that funds released in June should be thoroughly investigated as only contractors close to the officials received funds. He said that funds for all contractors should be released on merit for July and a mechanism be devised to weed out the commission mafia from the department.

They asked the government to clear more than Rs70 billion outstanding amount of the contractors and also resolve the provincial contractors’ fee issue. He also demanded escalation on all schemes in accordance with the Engineering Council formula. He said that the contractors along with labourers would stage a protest outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly if their issues were not resolved.
