Traffic police issue 2.8 million fine tickets in six months

LAHORE:City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has issued 2.8 million fine tickets to vehicles during first six months of the year.

The most number of challans, 800,000 tickets, were issued for lane, line and stop line violation, 220,000 tickets were issued for not wearing helmets, 274,000 for driving bikes without licence, 24,000 for one-way violation, 78,637 for creating obstruction in flow of traffic, 48,000 against rash driving, 32,000 against red signal crossing, 1,600 against not wearing seat belts, 11,513 for emitting smoke, 15,000 in dilapidated condition and 12,000 for driving without permit. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ammara Athar said that the purpose of issuing tickets was to manage traffic and ensure respect for laws. These are issued to reform behaviours rather than revenue generation, she upheld.

Three suspected robbers arrested

Sabzarzar Police has arrested three suspected robbers. The arrested suspects were identified as Tanzeel, Shahzad and Nadeem. Three pistols, two bikes, and cash were recovered from their custody. The suspects were caught red-handed while planning to conduct a robbery bid.

30,000 drug dealers held

Over 57,000 raids were conducted by Punjab Police on drug dens across the province, resulting in the arrest of over 30,000 suspects and the registration of 29,922 cases. During these operations, the police team recovered 17,182kg charas, 171kg Ice (methamphetamine), 360kg heroin powder, and 702kg opium. Additionally, 440,000 litre alcohol was confiscated. Furthermore, 666 individuals addicted to narcotics were admitted to rehabilitation centres for treatment.

IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar while giving instructions to all the RPOs, DPOs of the province said that intelligence-based operations should be speeded up for the eradication of drugs, accused involved in drug supply chain, online buying and selling should be arrested and severely punished.
