The future of Qurbani
The practice of Qurbani is linked to social welfare in many ways. It provides meat to those who cannot afford it, promoting food security and nutrition among vulnerable segments of our society, especially in low- and-middle income countries like Pakistan. While witnessing meat distribution this year, I cannot forget the expressions of gratitude on people's faces for whom this is perhaps the only time in the year when they get to have meat. Qurbani also encourages us to learn to sacrifice what's dear to us and be more charitable, fostering a sense of community and social responsibility. With prices of animals increasing each year and persisting inflation, one wonders how this will impact the tradition of Qurbani in the future.
