Timely measures termed crucial in preventing calamities

Rawalpindi:The Division Coordination Committee (DCC) meeting, chaired by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, was held on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Hasan Waqar Cheema, Director Local Government Syed Sabatin Kazmi, MD Wasa, and other relevant officers participated in the meeting.

Commissioner Aamir Khattak directed that the desilting work of Nullah Leh should be completed by July 10 without fail. He emphasised the importance of ensuring the cleanliness of rain drains including Nullah Leh, and warned that no negligence will be tolerated in connection with the cleaning of drains. He also stated that Section 144 is in force to prevent dumping of garbage in drains and it should be strictly enforced. The commissioner emphasised that timely measures are crucial in preventing natural calamities and avoiding major damage. In case of rains, the holidays of the officers and personnel of all related departments including RMC and Wasa will be cancelled. He advised taking timely measures for drainage of rainwater.

To improve the sewerage system across the city, the commissioner directed Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) to clean the drains and to ensure the activation of the sewage system in case of heavy rainfall. He warned that there should be no complaints of dirt anywhere in the city, especially in the drains. The commissioner also emphasised the complete elimination of encroachments from all areas within municipal corporation limits.

He directed Wasa to bring machineries on roads and streets to clear all streets during rains. Special attention should be given in the areas of Ratta Amaral, Katarian, Tipu Road, Dhoke Najo, Gwalmandi, and Zia-ul-Haq Colony during rains. The Commissioner highlighted Nullah Leh as the most dangerous area in Gawalmandi.

The health department was instructed to ensure the provision of adequate medical facilities to avoid any emergency situations, as directed by Commissioner Rawalpindi. The MD of WASA assured that they were fully equipped to face any untoward incident. Monsoon relief camps have been established in different points of the city.
