LAHORE:Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain inaugurated the exhibition organised by School of Design and Textiles UMT.
The students established 170 stalls in the exhibition held at Aiwan Quaid-i-Azam and the minister inspected the stalls and appreciated the work of the students. Talking to reporters, the minister said our students are very talented and they need support. He said steps were being taken to increase the linkages of students with the industry.
He said there is great potential in the textile sector and the sector can provide employment to thousands of people. He said the government is establishing Garment City in Quaid-i-Azam Business Park Sheikhupura to promote textile sector. He said the Garment City would be built on an area of 650 acres.
The minister said the government is striving to set up a solar panels manufacturing factory in Punjab in this regard. He said in this connection useful discussions were held with several foreign solar companies and next month, two large foreign investor groups are visiting Punjab.
The minister said cotton is a cash crop and its production needs to be increased and he would talk to the federal government for the lifting ban on cotton seed and the removal of taxes on cotton ginners.
Shafay said the IPPs also have to come towards solar energy now, till the problem of Kalabagh Dam is not solved, the government have to focus on building small dams. He said the country is rich in resources, if every department works diligently, the country will not need to borrow from any financial institution. To a question, the minister said every country can look after its own affairs, no other country needs to interfere. Rector University Dr Asif Raza, Dr Mumtaz Hussain, Dr Mudassar Abbas and others were also present on the occasion.
‘Intellect needed to address problems’
Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) organised a seminar on 'IMF & Pakistan’s Economy'. On this occasion, Pakistan Study Centre Director Prof Dr Naumana Kiran, Director Academic Punjab Group of Colleges Dr Tahir Ejaz, faculty members, PhD and MPhil scholars were present. In her address, Dr Naumana Kiran said that our decision-makers and political leadership need vision and intellect to address economic problems and to design a strategy to be self-reliant and to take Pakistan out of the IMF's circle. Dr Tahir Ejaz explained the important economic terms and the implications that they have on the economy of a country. He shed light on a genuine empathy for the nation, clarifying the existing issues as well as the misunderstandings that commonly exist in Pakistan about the IMF.
AI role in medicine highlighted
Punjab Institute of Neurosciences, Lahore, Wednesday hosted an insightful seminar on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medicine.
The seminar featured distinguished guest speaker Dr Basma Ali from Harvard Medical School, Boston, America, who delivered an enlightening lecture on the topic. Dr Basma discussed the latest advancements and applications of AI in healthcare, highlighting its potential to revolutionise patient care, diagnostics, and treatment strategies. Prof Asif Bashir, Executive Director of Punjab Institute of Neurosciences, emphasised the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI into Pakistan's healthcare system.
