KARACHI: Construction work for two new synthetic turfs, one for futsal and the other for hockey-7 has been started at PSB’s national sports training and coaching Centre in Karachi.
The two projects were proposed some time back and now its implementation has been started. Both are being developed on an empty plot adjacent to the entrance of coaching centre and tartan track.
The futsal turf will be red and hockey-7 turf will be blue. Both turfs will be imported. The sources said that a few rooms would also be constructed to facilitate players. It was also learnt that both turfs would be used for training and not for competitions.
However, there is no plan right now to replace the decades-old tartan track at the centre. The National Games 2024 will be held in Karachi later this year at the centre but due to dilapidated condition of the track, which is 38 years old, the athletics competition will be organised at NED University’s tartan track. The other delayed projects are the installation of floodlights, increase in seating arrangements for spectators around the football stadium and the fitness centre.
