KARACHI: Several lawyers and policemen were injured in an hours-long clash at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station on Tuesday night, Geo News reported.
The clash began after senior lawyer Qadir Rajpar arrived at the police station with a client with a court order for the release of a vehicle.
The SHO and other cops allegedly misbehaved towards the two instead of complying with court order. However, the police said a situation occurred when an unknown man in plainclothes entered a room of the police station and demanded the immediate release of the vehicle. Soon, many lawyers gathered outside the police station, and scuffles broke out. Lawyers accused the cops of using batons and resorting to aerial firing to disperse them. On the other hand, the police accused lawyers of pelting them with stones and injuring a number of law enforcers. According to the report, the Karachi Bar Association’s president and other senior lawyers demanded suspension of the SHO. The Gulshan-e-Iqbal SP was reportedly in talks with both sides to bring the situation under control.
