HARIPUR: All Government Employees’ Grand Alliance Pakistan has threatened to stage a protest outside the Parliament House if the government fails to reverse the decision of imposition of heavy taxes.
In statement the central chairman of AGEGA, Haider Ali Khan, provincial KP chapter head Nasiruddin and Haripur chapter chairman HDr Amir Atiq Sidiki have condemned the imposition of taxes on the government employees. The pay raise in the government employees was nominal and incompatible with the present day inflation, they added.
“Though the government has raised the salaries of employees, it has imposed heavy taxes on them, which is not acceptable,” said Haider Ali.They said that the government employees were already living a miserable life due to unbearable and unjustifiable taxes in electricity, gas and other food items but the recent taxes in the federal budget 2024/25 have further exposed them to economic hardships. They also rejected pension reforms and warned of countrywide movement and protest if the taxes were not withdrawn and the pension reforms shelved.
