PESHAWAR: A meeting here on Monday discussed measures to deal with the possible threat of monsoon rains and subsequent flash floods in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
An official handout said that KP Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary chaired the meeting. The additional chief secretary Home and Tribal Affairs Department, administrative secretaries, army, Rescue, Provincial Disaster Management Authority and other authorities attended the meeting.
The commissioners and deputy commissioners participated in the meeting through the video link. The meeting reviewed measures to tackle the risk of flash floods. The meeting was briefed by the Relief Department on the monsoon plan.
The participants were told that precautionary measures were being taken keeping in view the previous floods. The meeting was informed that a monsoon plan had been prepared after consulting all departments and stakeholders.
The chief secretary said the administration should ensure adequate stock of food, petrol and medicines in flood-prone districts. He said timely measures were important to minimize the damage caused by climate change.
