Traders urge govt to withdraw taxes
MANSEHRA: The traders and people from different segments of society on Sunday threatened to observe a shutter-down strike and street protests if the government didn’t withdraw taxes levied in the next fiscal year’s budget.
“The people have already been reeling because of effects of the country’s highest-ever inflation, and now approval of more taxes in the next fiscal year’s budget would further enhance their ordeals,” Khadim Hussain, a local told reporters, in Lassan Nawab.
Flanked by a group of locals, he said that the imposition of taxes on the demand of the International Monetary Funds in the new budget was an injustice. Another local, Muhammad Saeed said that the government would soon come onto the streets to protest high inflation.“The imposition of various levies and surcharges in natural gas and electricity utility bills caused a huge burden on the people and should immediately be withdrawn,” he added.
