HYDERABAD: A woman and her daughter who were sealed behind a wall in their house in Hyderabad’s Latifabad No. 5 locality allegedly by the woman’s brother-in-law and other suspects have been rescued.

Hyderabad Police Station B-Section SHO Muhammad Hashim Brohi received a call on Friday night through the police helpline 15 that a woman and her daughter had been trapped in their house in the Munawarabad area.

The SHO told the media that the two were locked in a room, then a wall was erected in front of the room’s door to trap them inside. He said the police reached the house and tore down the wall, then took the semi-conscious victims to the hospital.

Police said Tasleem Jahan and her 14-year-old daughter Dua have been discharged from the Bhittai Hospital, adding that they have gone home with the woman’s brother, while the suspects are at large.

According to the FIR registered on Tasleem’s complaint, she and her daughter were sealed by behind a wall over a property dispute. She said she and her daughter live in one of the three portions of the house, adding that the documents of the house are in her brother-in-law Sohail’s possession.

She accused her late husband’s brother of harassing her and her daughter. She claimed that on Friday afternoon, she and her daughter were sealed behind a wall.

She told the media that her brother-in-law and others want to sell their portion of the house, which was why their electricity, gas and water lines had also been severed several days ago.

She said that after everything else failed, the suspects tried to kill her and her daughter by sealing them behind a wall. “But we managed to get out with the help of the people of the neighbourhood.”
