The combination of rugged terrain, inadequate infrastructure, and human error contributes significantly to the high incidence of road accidents in Balochistan. The province’s extensive road network, although critical for connectivity, is often poorly maintained. Potholes, narrow roads, and lack of proper signs make driving treacherous. Many roads are not designed to handle heavy traffic, leading to congestion and increased accident risks. Furthermore, the mountainous topography of Balochistan adds another layer of danger, with winding roads and steep inclines requiring skilled driving. Reckless driving, over-speeding, and lack of adherence to traffic rules are also rampant.
Many drivers lack proper training and do not possess valid licenses, exacerbating the problem. The use of outdated and poorly maintained vehicles also plays a significant role. Public transport is often overloaded, increasing the likelihood of fatal accidents. Efforts to mitigate road accidents in Balochistan require investment in better roads, proper signage, and regular maintenance. Implementing stringent traffic regulations and ensuring driver education and licensing and improving public transportation safety standards and encouraging the use of modern vehicles can also help.
