NA panels: Six more chairpersons elected
ISLAMABAD: The Elections of Standing Committees of the National Assembly continued on Friday and Chairpersons of six Standing Committees of the National Assembly were elected unanimously.
The National Assembly Standing Committees on Railways, Science & Technology, Economic Affairs Division, Energy (Power Division), Law & Justice and Climate Change elected their Chairmen unanimously in maiden meetings held on Friday in Parliament House. They were conducted by Additional Secretary (Committees) Syed Jawad Murtaza Naqvi and Syed Haseen Raza Zaidi, Joint Secretary (Committees).
The Standing Committee on Railways unanimously elected Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan of PTI-backed SIC as its Chairman . His name was proposed by Ramesh Lal and seconded by all the members of the Committee. The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Science and Technology unanimously elected Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood of PTI-backed SIC as its Chairman. His candidature was proposed by Ramesh Lal, MNA and supported by all the members of the Committee.
The Standing Committees on Economic Affairs Division unanimously elected Muhammad Atif of PTI-backed SIC. Bilal Azhar Kiyani proposed Muhammad Atif as Chairman of the Economic Affairs Division supported by all the members of the committee. Muhammad Idrees, of the PTI-backed SIC, was elected as Chairmen Energy (Power Division) after his name was proposed by Sher Ali Arbab and seconded by all the members of the committees.
Chairmen to the Standing Committees on Law & Justice elected Ch. Mehmood Bashir Virk of the PML-N and his name was proposed by Syed Naveed Qamar and seconded by all the members of the Committee. The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Climate Change elected Munaza Hassan of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party as its Chairperson. Her name was proposed by Ms. Shagufta Jumani and seconded by all the members of the Committee
After conducting the elections, both the officers felicitated the newly elected chairpersons on behalf of the speaker, deputy speaker and the secretary general and assured their all-out support in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
