Foolproof security for Muharram processions directed

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana presided over the District Peace Committee meeting at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Friday.

In the meeting establishment of peaceful atmosphere and security arrangements during Muharram ul Haram were discussed. Strict monitoring of hotspot areas in the City throughout Muharram was also decided in the meeting.

The meeting decided continuing search and sweep, combing and intelligence-based operations around sensitive locations. The meeting decided installation of bunkers, walk-through gates, metal detectors and CCTV cameras at Imambargahs.

The District Peace Committee members and licence-holders assured their full cooperation. The CCPO appreciated their stance and urged procession organisers to play their role in maintaining peace during Muharram.

The CCPO reiterated the commitment to provide foolproof security for processions and gatherings during Muharram. He said the Sound Act, timings of gatherings and adherence to procession routes would be strictly enforced.

He said necessary facilities would be provided at procession routes and gathering points in collaboration with the district administration. The CCPO highlighted the crucial role of scholars in maintaining peace and stressed the need for regular Peace Committee meetings.

DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran, SSP (Operations) Tassawar Iqbal, SP (Security) Abdul Wahab, divisional SPs (Operations), religious scholars, including Agha Shah Hussain Qazilbash, Tauqeer Hussain Baba, Kh Measam Abbas, Maulana Muhammad Ali Naqshbandi, Mufti Imran Sajjad Hanfi, Maulana Azizur Rehman Sani and Sahibzada Babar Farooqi also attended the meeting.
