TANK: Thirteen labourers were kidnapped from the Tator area of the district on Friday and nine of them were recovered later, police officials said.
The abducted workers, engaged in maintenance work on a 132kv transmission line, were taken by unidentified armed individuals. According to District Police Officer Abdul Salam Khalid, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Mureed Akbar Police Station, where the labourers were working on the transmission line that extends through South Waziristan. The transmission tower in question had collapsed recently due to strong winds near Tator village.
All abducted labourers are said to hail from Punjab. Heavy police contingents have been dispatched to the scene, and a search operation was launched across the region to locate the missing individuals.Officials said that the police recovered nine of the kidnapped labourers, while efforts continue for the remaining four.
“A search operation has been launched in the area to recover the four kidnapped labourers,” said a police official.
