Plastic pollution is a very concerning menace in Pakistan. Due to plastic pollution, marine flora and fauna and our ecosystem is greatly affected. Plastic pollution is troubling the land, waterways and oceans. It is estimated that 1.1 to 1.8 million tonnes of plastic waste enters the ocean from coastal areas each year. Some researchers predict that by 2050 there could be more plastic than fish in oceans by weight. Additionally, more than 350 million metric tonnes of plastic wastes are created every year all around the world.
Normally, plastic items can take up to 1000 years to decompose. It is mandatory that plastic bags need to be recycled each year but, unfortunately, data shows that only 15 per cent of plastic waste is recycled.
