ISLAMABAD: Senator Abbas Afridi, who left the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz a day earlier, has said he left the PMLN because former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had been made “irrelevant” in the country’s politics. Talking to senior journalist Hamid Mir in Geo News talk show ‘Capital Talk’ on Wednesday, Senator Afridi said the nation and senior party leadership did not prove their loyalty to Nawaz Sharif.

It may be mentioned that after former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair, Senator Abbas Afridi also left the PMLN, tendering his resignation to the senior leadership of the party on Tuesday.

Abbas Afridi said the February 8 elections were aimed at removing Nawaz Sharif from the picture, adding that the issue of Form 45 and 47 was created to make Nawaz irrelevant. He said that today two persons have been made irrelevant in politics, one is Nawaz Sharif and the other is Imran Khan.

Afridi said he suffered because of the cause of the party. The Federal Investigation Agency issued his arrest warrants along with three others. He said that Ahsan Iqbal once called him on phone and said that he was being expelled from the party. “I told him that I already was not in the party but with Nawaz Sharif and will remain standing with him.” We struggled for the welfare of masses but the party government was not delivering now, Afridi added.
