BISP chairperson meets Bill Gates to discuss welfare initiatives

Islamabad:In a significant move aimed at advancing Pakistan's welfare efforts, Senator Rubina Khalid, chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), held a pivotal meeting with Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The discussion centred on strategic initiatives designed to uplift impoverished communities through skill development, economic empowerment, and improved healthcare access.

Senator Rubina Khalid underscored the pivotal role of skill development in lifting BISP beneficiaries out of poverty. She emphasised, “Economic empowerment is crucial for women's overall empowerment. Financial independence is the key to their freedom and success. Our priority is to elevate beneficiaries from poverty, and BISP is committed to various projects to achieve this goal.”

A highlight of the meeting was the introduction of a digital disbursement system aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in delivering quarterly stipends to beneficiaries. This innovation seeks to ensure prompt and secure payments, thus bolstering the overall effectiveness of BISP.

Bill Gates commended BISP’s impactful initiatives, labelling it as an exemplary welfare program. He expressed full support for BISP’s endeavours, particularly its strides in addressing malnutrition and enhancing food security among vulnerable populations. Gates noted, “I appreciate the remarkable progress made by BISP in addressing critical issues.”

Senator Rubina Khalid extended her gratitude to Bill Gates for the continuous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which she noted significantly enhances BISP’s mission to empower deserving segments of society.
