Clogged system

When we talk about Pakistan’s civil litigation system, the very first thing that comes to mind is that it is very slow and time-consuming. It is not uncommon for a single case to go unresolved for decades, with some trying to get cases from their parents or even grandparents time resolved. This is largely due to a shortage of capacity among the courts relative to the caseload, a high number of pending cases, shortage of judges and frequent adjournments.

Overcoming lengthy civil trials in Pakistan requires a combination of reforms to simplify procedures, reduce adjournments, delimiting time for every stage of the trial, improving judicial capacity, training judges to manage cases effectively, promoting ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) and digitizing procedures where feasible.
