The comments made by the defence minister in the National Assembly pertaining to the situation facing religious minorities in Pakistan are mostly justifiable. The incidents happening in the country are totally embarrassing for us as a nation. This country belongs to every Pakistani regardless of their faith and everyone is free to practice their religion. Being a Muslim-majority country does not mean that minority rights should be sidelined.
Islam is a religion of peace and harmony and teaches us the principles of humanity. The government should hold those individuals spreading hate and misusing the name of religion within the state accountable who are and should ensure the rights and safety of minorities.
