Police van escorting minister targeted with bomb attack

BANNU: A police mobile van escorting provincial Minister Pakhtunyar Khan was attacked with a remote-controlled bomb at Kalakhel Masti Khan point on Dera Ismail Khan Road on Wednesday.

Local sources said that a mobile van of the Iqbal Marwat Shaheed Police Lines, Bannu, was going to escort Pakhtunyar Khan, the provincial minister for public health engineering.They said that a remote-controlled bomb planted by militants went off when the police van was passing through Kalakhel Masti Khan area on Dera Ismail Khan Road. They added that the police vehicle was damaged in the explosion. Some of the shrapnel also hit the nearby shops. The police claimed that the blast was triggered with a remote-controlled but luckily it caused no loss of life or severe damage to the property.

Minister Pakhtunyar Khan, who was going to attend a meeting of officials of the electricity supply company convened at the office of deputy commissioner and appear in the court at the Judicial Complex in a case registered on May 9 violence.
