Two software parks, freelancing hub launched in AJK

It has established two software technology parks in Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot and a freelancing hub in Haveli district

MUZAFFARABAD: Special Communication Organisation (SCO), a telecom company working in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, has taken cutting-edge initiatives in the region to facilitate people besides providing modern telecommunication facilities.

Under the programme, it has established two software technology parks in Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot and a freelancing hub in Haveli district.

The initiative introduces cutting-edge technologies to local youth for development of niche skills and promotion of business enabling environment in IT domain. Major General Umar Ahmad Shah HI (M), DG SCO, officiated the opening, emphasising the SCO’s resolve to transform region’s IT landscape.

The newly established IT setup in Haveli joins six other freelancing hubs in AJ&K, located in Kel, Kamhora Ghambir along the Line of Control (LoC), Hattian, Goharabad, Khairowal, and Koniyon. All these hubs aim to harness the IT potential of youth, and are connected with major district level IT hubs for mutual sharing of expertise, skill development, and mentoring.

SCO DG Major General Umar Ahmad Shah said, “The launch of freelancing hub in Haveli demonstrates SCO’s commitment to empower local youth. It provides state-of-the-art IT facilities in a very conducive environment, with an objective to unlock youth potential. The purpose is to promote a digitally inclusive society. These facilities will contribute towards fostering IT skills and boosting local economy.”

The initiative to develop network of IT setups across the region is a cornerstone of SCO’s broader strategy to transform IT landscape of AJ&K. By nurturing local talent and providing them with desired IT tools, SCO is playing a pivotal role in the economic and social development of AJ&K, he said.

Meanwhile, the SCO DG inaugurated software technology parks (STPs) in Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot in collaboration with Read foundation and University of Poonch. The DG, while inspecting the facilities provided in the parks, said more STPs will be established in other districts and tehsil towns of the region to facilitate the youth to avail advantages of the modern technology.

He said such type of facilities will be provided in colleges of the region to benefit the students and youth so that they can earn their livelihood by using the modern technology. He further said fastest internet and power bank facilities will be ensured at these STPs, so that during the daytime, the students and in the evening, IT professionals can use these facilities in bringing a revolution in the IT field in the region.

The SCO DG expressed hope that by taking advantage of these facilities, the youth of the region will earn for themselves besides contributing to the regional and national economy.
