RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: The lawyers have completed the cross-examination of two more witnesses produced in the accountability court at Adiala Jail in the 190 million pound reference against the PTI founder chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

Imran and Bushra were brought into the courtroom. Prosecutors Chaudhry Nazar, Irfan Bhola and Sohail Arif and the lawyer of the accused Usman Gul were present in the courtroom.

During the hearing, a request for medical examination was filed on behalf of Bushra Bibi, on which Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich directed the jail superintendent jail to make arrangements for her medical examination.

The cross-examination of two more witnesses was completed while the preliminary cross-examination of two was also done, after which the court adjourned the hearing till July 2.

In an informal chat with the media, Imran said about negotiations, “I want to negotiate for Pakistan, not for myself or the government.”

He reiterated his willingness to step back if it benefitted the country, saying, “Convince me it benefits the country, and I will step back.”

He criticised the current government for not reducing expenses and failing to create an investment-friendly environment.

“The country is in crisis,” the ex-PM said.

Imran argued that Pakistan needed a mandate-driven government for necessary reforms. He said the current budget highlighted the limitations of a non-mandated government and condemned heavy taxation on the professionals and the public. He predicted severe impacts from the upcoming electricity bills.

He lamented the broken promises on load-shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) where power cuts were extensive.

He criticised the ongoing issue of electricity theft in various regions, questioning where the public should turn for solutions.

“Electricity theft is an old issue. It happens in Hyderabad, Sindh, and Quetta as well,” he said.

He noted lack of unity in the political parties and criticised Maryam Nawaz for extravagant spending on self-promotion.

He warned that further borrowing would be needed to pay off the national debt and urged the judiciary to support the weak rather than the powerful.

Shakeel Anjum from Islamabad adds: Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur met the PTI founder chairman Imran Khan at the Adiala Jail and discussed political and administrative issues including the increasing load-shedding and reaction from the government quarters to facilitate the people of KP, jail sources said.

Gandapur briefed Imran on the basic issues faced by the PTI government, specially the protracted and unannounced load-shedding, the sources said, adding that the KP chief minister sought guidance and party policy to tackle the administrative issues. He met Imran at about 1pm and remained with him for over an hour.
