LAHORE: The Regional Hub of the International Communication Association (ICA) Conference under the theme ‘Communication and Global Human Rights’ got underway at Forman Christian College here on Friday.

As many as 150 researchers, academicians, and media professionals from Pakistan and other countries participated in the conference. FCCU Rector Dr Jonathan Addleton appreciated the efforts of the Department of Mass Communication and said, “This conference will enhance the academic environment and provide valuable opportunities for students and the broader community.”

Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication and primary organiser of the Regional Hub Dr Firasat Jabeen emphasised the need for such conferences in Pakistan. She said, “I feel proud that we took this initiative, providing a platform to hundreds of researchers, academicians and media professionals from Pakistan and other countries.”

Dean of Humanities Dr Altaf Ullah Khan emphasised the importance of the conference theme, stating, “Addressing global human rights through the lens of communication is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and equitable world.” He further remarked, “This conference provides an essential platform for scholars to explore and advocate for human rights, driving impactful change through informed dialogue.”

The programme’s theme, “Communication and Global Human Rights,” served as the foundation for dynamic discussions and expert opinions from renowned media scholars. Attendees explored the critical intersection of communication and human rights, fostering a deeper understanding of global challenges and opportunities in this domain.

The event featured a range of activities, including live-streamed sessions from the ICA conference in Gold Coast, Australia, paper presentations, workshops on academic publishing and grant writing, and stalls from local publishers. These activities offered the participants valuable insights, practical skills, and opportunities to engage with the latest research and advancements in the field of communication.
