LAHORE: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is shocked to learn that journalist and former president of the Landi Kotal Press Club Khalil Jibran was shot dead by unidentified assailants near his home.
Jibran, a former HRCP volunteer who worked with Khyber News, had been a longtime reporter covering militancy in the area. His work had made him the target of death threats.
Such incidents have become regrettably common with little security afforded to journalists and media persons reporting from sensitive areas.
HRCP demands that Mr Jibran’s murder be investigated and the perpetrators held accountable.
