DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday said that Pakistan Peoples Party had reservations about the federal budget as the party had not been taken into confidence in preparation of financial outlay for the year 2024-25.

“The PPP delegation headed by Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani had held talks with the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to remove the party reservations,” he told reporters at Kundi Model Farm on Eid day. He hoped that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would remove the PPP reservations about the federal budget with mutual understanding and cooperation.

He said that Chashma Lift Canal project would be inaugurated at the end of the current year, which would usher in a new era of development and prosperity in the KP, particularly in southern districts.

Congratulating people of the province, especially those belonging to the southern districts, the governor said the project would not only be a milestone in the province’s agricultural self-sufficiency but of the entire country.

He thanked PM Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Mussadiq Malik and others for sanctioning Rs19 billion for the project.

He said that they were trying to get approval for further 30 feet raising of the Lift Canal so more and more lands could be brought under irrigation and establish an industrial zone in Sear Ismail Khan.

“Paniala is a tehsil headquarters and we are working to get approval for establishing an interchange for it besides NADRA office,” he said, adding that there was an alliance government in the Centre and issues would soon be settled amicably.

Kundi also said that the main issue was the law and order situation in the province, particularly in Dera Ismail Khan, which should be addressed by the provincial government as per the 18th Amendment of the Constitution. He said that he had advised the KP government to call the meeting of the Apex Committee to find out a solution to the worsening law and order situation in the province.

However, he said that the provincial government had even not called the cabinet meeting to discuss the issue and solve it once and for all.

The governor suggested that an in-camera session of the KP Assembly should be summoned to discuss the one-point agenda of restoring lasting peace in the province.

“The people are not getting out of their homes after evening because no one is safe. Personnel of security institutions, police, Customs were being attacked while judges were kidnapped in broad daylight but the provincial government is still indifferent towards these issues,” he said adding that the KP government was incapable of tackling the law and order situation.

He also criticized KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his rhetoric for ending electricity loadshedding, saying that the issue was further intensified after meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

He said that if the KP CM cannot resolve the issue of power cuts in the province then he would himself tackle it with the prime minister.
