PORT LAUDERHILL, Florida: All those cricketers who stayed back in the US following their early exit from the World Cup T20 cricket preferred to keep distance with the Pakistanis living here after fast bowler Haris Rauf’s altercation with a fan the other day.
The News has learnt that Babar Azam and Shadab Khan, Haris and a few others have cut off their public interaction and are only meeting those they know well. Haris, who was seen charging towards a fan following his remarks “For Dollars you people can even—-“ also limited his outdoor interaction.
Haris’ incident that took place outside a hotel here in Lauderdale, which saw a Pakistani working at a nearby restaurant requesting Haris for a picture. A few other Pakistan fans were also seen around the guy who was seen repeatedly requesting Haris for a photo. Haris did not pay heed to any of his requests, possibly because his wife was with him.
When fans failed to get his attention, one of them started hurling negative comments, saying that Haris had ruined Pakistan’s chances by presenting the match to the US. “For Dollars they can even ….,” was the comment that resulted in exchange of hot words and ultimately Haris’ decision to rush towards that particular fan. Despite repeated requests from his wife, Haris crossed over the bush-barrier and was seen getting engaged in a brawl.
Later, on his X handler -@HarisRauf14, that has got over one million followers, Haris claimed that he decided against bringing the incident to the media but decided to do so when the video got viral.
“I decided not to bring this up on social media, But now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation. As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticize us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parents and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions.” Haris has been under criticism for conceding 15 runs in the final over that brought the US back in the match at Dallas, forcing a Super Over which ultimately went the hosts way.
