Former PHC CJ appointed as tribunal head

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has appointed a former chief justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice (retd) Mohammad Ibrahim Khan as chairman of Appellate Tribunal for Medical Teaching Institutions (MTIs) for a period of three years.

“In exercise of powers conferred under Sub-Section-1&2 of Section-16(A) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Medical Teaching Institution Reform, Act 2015 (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Act No. IV of 2015) (amended from time to time), the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is pleased to approve the recommendations of Search & Nomination Committee and appoint Justice (retired) Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, former chief justice Peshawar High Court as chairman ofAppellate Tribunal for Medical Teaching Institutions, for a period of three years, with immediate effect in the best public interest,” the provincial health department stated in a

notification issued on Thursday.

Belonging to Swabi district, Justice Ibrahim Khan had earned criticism from opponents for granting bails to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers and leaders as PHC chief justice from all over the country.

The Appellate Tribunal chairman’s position had been vacant since April this year, where a number of MTI employees were facing problems as their cases have been pending for the last many months. According to sources, besides other perks and privileges, the chairman is paid Rs8.1 million a month, a brand new car and servants.
