The District West police on Wednesday arrested a key operative of a rickshaw gang involved in robbing innocent citizens and snatching mobile phones.
The police reported that on June 8, 2024, the suspect snatched a mobile phone from Nauman Khan, a resident of Sector 4F. A case was registered under Section 382/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Mominabad Police Station on the complaint of the victim.
The SHO arrested the rickshaw-borne Asmatullah, son of Abdullah, during snap checking, while another suspect escaped. During the search, they recovered 21 mobile phones, seven watches, ATM cards, CNICs, and 30 SIM cards from his possession.
Among the recovered items was the VIVO Y20S mobile phone snatched from Khan. The accused revealed that the mobile phones were snatched by deceiving innocent citizens while posing as foreigners.
During the investigation, the accused admitted, “I show the need for money by pretending to be a foreigner and offer to sell a local watch cheaply, claiming it is valuable. At the same time, my accomplice arrives as a rickshaw driver and we flee after obtaining money and mobile phones from citizens in exchange for the watches.” The accused has been handed over to the investigating authorities for further legal action.
