In India, in previous national elections PM Narendra Modi’s party, the BJP, dominated the social media space. But in the 2024 elections the scenario was different. Indian YouTubers appear to have played a significant role in snatching that space out of the BJP’s grip. Indian Youtubers like Dhruv Rathee are often doing the things mainstream media should do; checking facts and holding the state, particularly the Modi administration, to account. There seems to be a power shift happening in the media universe and the impact is noticeable.
