ABBOTTABAD: The Board of Governors (BoG) of Ayub Medical Teaching Institution (AMTI) has not yet appointed a new hospital director after the expiry of the tenure of the acting one.
A BoG member Asad Khan Jadoon told this correspondent on Sunday that AMTI was allegedly running without any hospital director.
The BoG in the 90th meeting on December 16, last year had postponed the permanent appointment of a hospital director due to the ban and had given an extension to the officiating hospital director till June 6 of this month. Earlier, he had availed six months tenure as hospital director.
Jadoon said although the MTI Act 2015 clearly stated that the chairperson may appoint deans, hospital, medical, nursing, and finance directors on an officiating basis in case of exigency, such appointments shall be for three months, and the board shall make regular appointments in the prescribed manner.
He alleged that the BoG had not only validated the earlier tenure of the hospital director illegally but also gave him an extension for another three months.
The BoG reappointed Dr Ather Lodhi for another three months, which expired on June 6, However. He said there was no provision for extension in the act.
The AMTI board members including Dr Aftab Rabani and Asad Khan Jadoon differed on the matter.
Dr Rabani believed the BoG chairman had the power to appoint an officiating executive on an exigency basis, while Jadoon said the appointment of the hospital director by the chairman without the approval of the BoG was illegal.
