LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has responded to opposition leader Ahmed Khan Bhachar, saying that Maryam Nawaz has initiated 42 public interest projects within 100 days.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Bukhari highlighted that Nawaz Sharif had introduced these projects in 2015, but the PTI government’s habit of claiming credit for others’ work persists. She criticised the performance of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, asserting that he had failed to match the work ethic of Shehbaz Sharif.

Bukhari expressed indignation over the PTI government’s record on farmer issues, noting that two farmers were fatally shot during their tenure. She mocked the government’s achievements, remarking sarcastically about their “eggs, chickens, and houses of charity.”

She emphasised Maryam Nawaz’s initiatives upon assuming the role of chief minister, including a Ramadan package worth Rs30 billion, the distribution of ration bags, and special packages for religious communities. She touted the establishment of the First Government Cancer Hospital and the Sargodha Institute of Cardiology Hospital in Lahore. Under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, the minister claimed, flour prices decreased by Rs1,200, and bread prices dropped from Rs20 to Rs12 within three months. She praised the introduction of field hospitals, free cancer screenings, and the Clinic on Wheels programme.

She lauded the government’s efforts in providing a historic Rs300 billion package for 500,000 farmers, introducing tractor schemes, and implementing one-window operations for farmers’ needs. She highlighted initiatives such as the Kisan Card, the Himat Card, and the Livestock Card.

Additionally, Bukhari mentioned the acceleration of highway construction, TEVTA programmemes for skill development, and the “Knock of Maryam Nawaz” programme facilitating easy access to certificates. She noted advancements in safe city projects, free Wi-Fi facilities, and initiatives like the Model Women Police Station and Pink Button Emergency Helpline.

Furthermore, she outlined Maryam Nawaz’s “Apna Ghar Apna Chhat” programme, aiming to provide one lakh houses in the first phase, along with the approval of 657 new buses for the province and the distribution of 20 bikes to students.
