This letter refers to the article ‘Most judges think for Pakistan but ‘some black sheep’ help Imran: PM’ (May 29, 2024). This statement is extremely irresponsible, immature and illogical and has obviously, in my view, created a new rift between the executive and other institutions. Being the national chief executive, he should not have undermined the dignity and credibility of a prestigious institution that is responsible ensuring the dispensation of justice within the provisions enshrined in the constitution and law without any bias or partiality. It seems that the prime minister wants all the judgements to be in his favour and instantly blames the judges if any decision is otherwise.
The remarks appear to be a deliberate attempt to damage the institution by giving rise to a fresh controversy in the country, which is already grappling with multiple challenges. As head of the democratic government of over 220 million people, the prime minister must think before speaking as his diatribe may undermine his own stature and reputation in the days to come.
