DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two policemen sustained injuries in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion and the subsequent exchange of fire between the police and militants near Hathala Farm House on Tank Road on Saturday.
Sources said that a police party headed by Deputy superintendent of Police Kulachi Circle, Inamullah Gandapur was going for a search operation.
They said that when they reached near Hathala Farm House on Tank Road, the militants attacked them with an IED blast.
As a result, the driver of Quick Response Force (QRF), whose name could not be ascertained, and a constable Safeerullah Khattak, sustained injuries in the explosion.
Soon after the blast, the militants also opened indiscriminate fire on the police party, which retaliated swiftly forcing the attackers to flee the scene.
The police van was also damaged in the blast and firing.
The injured cops were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan where their condition was stated to be stable.
Later, District Police Officer Nasir Mahmood visited the hospital and inquired after the health of the injured cops.
