Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the provincial home department to ensure that newly recruited or under-training guards of private security agencies in Karachi do not possess arms while on duty.
He issued these directives on Saturday as he took notice of a recent incident of a sanitary worker killed due to firing by a guard of a private security company.
The CM asked the police to arrest the culprit at the earliest and submit to him a compliance report. He asked the officials concerned to take action against such private security companies which violate the regulations by giving weapons to the newly recruited or under-training guards.
He said the private security guards at the time of their recruitment should undergo an examination to ascertain their mental health status. He said that a newly recruited guard shouldn’t get a weapon while performing his duties.
Shah further said the criminal record of a prospective candidate applying for the job of a private security guard should also be checked. He said incidents involving unprovoked deaths of people due to firing by private security guards were highly tragic.
The chief minister also asked the officials of the home department to inspect the private security companies.
He deplored the loss of life of an innocent sanitary worker and condoled with the bereaved family.
