ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad, Azam Khan, has granted interim bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser in four cases until June 22. The court accepted the plea for interim bail against a surety bond of Rs 50,000 each and a local guarantor.

Asad Qaiser has been directed to appear before the investigation team, and the court has also issued notices to the prosecution to present evidence and arguments, adjourning the hearing until June 22.

Earlier, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) ordered the removal of former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser's name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

A two-member bench of the PHC, comprising Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah, issued the orders and deemed the addition of his name unconstitutional and illegal. The petitioner's lawyer informed the court that Asad Qaiser, a former speaker of the National Assembly, needed to perform Umrah but was prevented from leaving the country.

The court declared the decision to place Asad Qaiser's name on the ECL as illegal and ordered its immediate removal. It is worth noting that several PTI leaders, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and others, were booked in various FIRs for the Azadi March. The police had filed 42 cases against senior PTI leaders and workers for their role in the agitation following clashes between the police and PTI members in the provincial capital.
