LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to rehabilitate the ancient and historical buildings of Murree to their original condition. This decision was made during a special meeting co-chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and President PMLN Nawaz Sharif, on Thursday.
The meeting reviewed the proposal to establish a ‘Murree Street’ modelled after world-renowned streets. It was agreed to introduce the latest smart tram, with directives to submit a plan within 15 days.
Maryam instructed the preparation of a new design for a multi-storeyed parking plaza to accommodate over 1,500 vehicles, allowing tourists to visit Murree via the tram from the plaza.
A 15-day timeline was set for installing digital counting cameras on Murree’s entry routes. The Murree Traffic Management Plan was approved, and the Murree Cable Car Service will be linked to a fitness certificate following repair and rehabilitation.
The CM also directed the early completion of the Samli TB Sanatorium upgrade project. Excellent toilets will be built for tourists at various motorway sites, including The Mall Road, with specific facilities for differently-abled persons and rest areas for children. A wheelchair centre for differently-abled individuals and elders will also be established on The Mall Road.
The meeting reviewed proposals for an ‘Entertainment Park and Clipping Pod Village,’ noting that more than 90% of the construction and extension of 12 roads in Murree is complete. A water supply scheme will be launched to provide clean water to Murree and surrounding areas from the current system and the River Jhelum. Participants were informed about the elimination of encroachments and a crackdown on illegal construction. Financial aid will be provided to injured workers during the anti-encroachment campaign.
The CM said, “The anti-encroachment campaign will continue with no compromise.” Nawaz Sharif emphasized the need to amend laws delaying public welfare and highlighted past development achievements, including the motorway. A briefing on Murree district development projects and the master plan was provided.
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif met Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, Ambassador of the UAE. The announcement of $10 billion UAE investment in Pakistan was welcomed. Discussions included promoting bilateral relations, agricultural research and technology and enhancing cooperation in trade and various sectors.
Collaboration on increasing agricultural production, food protection, livestock development and dairy farming was also agreed upon. The meeting reviewed potential investments in textile, pharmaceutical and other agricultural sectors.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif remarked, “Bilateral relations with the UAE comprise mutual respect and trust.” Nawaz Sharif added, “Pakistan and the UAE enjoy brotherly bilateral relations.” Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb was also present.
