Patient’s death 3 doctors among 7 suspended in Pabbi hospital

NOSHERA: Three doctors, including medical superintendent, and two technicians and as many ward orderlies were suspended while departmental action under PND Rules against them was initiated for the negligence and the subsequent death of a patient at Mian Rashid Hussain Shaheed Memorial Hospital in Pabbi.

Two separate inquiry reports were sent to the chief minister, minister and secretary for Health Department, suggesting further probe and departmental action under PND Rules against the responsible medical and non-medical staff members of the hospital.

The punitive action was taken against hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Ikhtiar Ali, Medical Officer Dr Javed, Dr Afrasiyab, and technicians Salman and Sohail Khattak, and ward orderlies Khan Baz and Ammar

A young patient had died due to the negligence of the staff of Mian Rashid Hussain Shaheed Memorial Hospital in Pabbi recently.

The Rescue 1122 ambulance had brought a patient to the health facility and after spending three hours on an emergency bed, he was not provided any medical treatment. The patient was later thrown into the hospital courtyard on a wheelchair by the staff and he tragically died after at night.

The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Ikhtiar Ali had confirmed the occurrence of the incident, who also claimed that the patient was initially referred to a hospital in Peshawar, but the Rescue 1122 team refused to transport him.

Later, a video went viral on social media prompting high-ups and the chief minister to take notice of the issue. Two separate committees were constituted, which visited the hospital and recorded statements of doctors and Rescue 1122 staff members and police.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had formed a three-member investigation committee headed Additional Secretary Health Dr Niaz Muhammad, Deputy Secretary Tufail Khan and Director Health Service Reforms Unit Dr Khalil Akhtar

to fix responsibility to award exemplary punishment to the negligent staff of the

hospital.

The committee had recorded statements of the Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Ikhtiar Ali, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Salman, DMS Dr Idrees, Dr Javed, Dr Mansoor and the paramedic staff.

The committee also recorded statements of Rescue 1122 and police personnel, Shazad Ali, a citizen, who had informed Rescue 1122 about the patient. The CCTV records were also obtained.

The probe body comprising Dr Muhammad Salim and Dr Hilal Sardar after inquiry had suspended technicians Salman and Sohail Khattak, ward orderlies Khan Baz and Ammar.
