Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar paid a visit to the office of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh on Wednesday and reviewed its performance.

The meeting was attended by the CTD DIG and other senior police officers. Lanjar directed that the licences of all arms dealers should be digitized, the purpose of which is to digitize the configuration of a centralized system and the details of different types of weapons.

He enquired from the officers about the investigation of the case of a youth who was killed during a robbery resistance in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and instructed that the CTD should supervise the investigation of robbery murder cases.

Lanjar directed a committee comprising the district SSP, Special Branch and CTD to ensure all possible steps under regular coordination regarding data collection and geotagging issues and measures of madrasas.

In addition, he said the implementation of the National Action Plan prepared for various crimes and especially serious crimes and other necessary issues related to law and order should be ensured in accordance with its spirit and priorities. He further said: “I myself will monitor your performance all the time, so it is very important that the CTD does a good job and in this regard the performance report should be sent after every fortnight for review.”

The home minister said determination and courage in the discharge of duties mostly leads to success and we as a whole have to put an iron hand on the criminal elements. “Make your actions and power workable in such a way that criminals become afraid of you,” he said.

He added that the full support of the government is with the CTD. However, it has become necessary to make it mandatory to reform the CTD, which has to be equipped with modern technology to face new methods and challenges of crime.

CTD DIG Asif Aijaz briefed the meeting on actions against banned organisations, including anti-terrorism and threat assessment. He also made recommendations to the home minister regarding provision of resources for vehicles required by the CTD, construction of regional complexes, locators and other necessary equipment.
