UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan and Saint Vincent, an island country in the eastern Caribbean, established formal diplomatic relations on Monday.
To formalise the relations, Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, and his counterpart, Ambassador Inga Rhonda King of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, signed a joint communiqué.
Welcoming Ambassador King to the Pakistan Mission, Ambassador Akram acknowledged the long-standing “warm, close, and cooperative” relationship between Pakistan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the UN. He stated, “The establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries will further deepen our ties. We look forward to more intense interactions between tourists, business delegations, and the people of both nations.”
Ambassador Akram praised Ambassador King for her strong advocacy at various UN forums, particularly as president of ECOSOC, noting her leadership as an exemplary demonstration of the significant contributions small nations can make.
Ambassador King reciprocated the warm sentiments, thanking Ambassador Akram for his hospitality and friendship. She expressed that establishing formal diplomatic ties with Pakistan was a special day for her country, highlighting the UN’s ability to unite nations of all sizes in their shared vision for a better world. She affirmed that the diplomatic relations would strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative, officers from the Pakistan Mission, and a delegate from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
