Islamabad:The Secours Islamique France (SIF) Pakistan Mission hosted a vibrant celebration for World Environment Day, focusing on ‘land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.’ The event united community members, dignitaries, and stakeholders in advocating for sustainable practices and raising environmental awareness.

The celebration was graced by the presence of French Ambassador Nicolas Galey, his wife, and SIF orphan children and their families. Together, they distributed solar lamps and health and hygiene kits, enjoyed children's performances, and engaged with the local community. Distinguished guests included Dr. Sadia Kamal, vice president of the Press Club; Roomi Hayat, CEO of IRM; and officials from the Social Welfare Department and Child Protection Bureau.

The event highlighted the importance of individual and collective actions in preserving the planet for future generations. Educational sessions and activities were centred around land restoration, combating desertification, and enhancing drought resilience. The distribution of health and hygiene kits and solar lamps underscored the promotion of sustainable living practices. Captivating performances, including a thought-provoking skit and a moving poem titled ‘Yeh sab ka geet hai’ (It's everyone's song), aligned with the theme of World Environment Day 2024. Attendees also had the opportunity to explore locally crafted handicrafts and savour delicious food products, reflecting the community's rich diversity.

French Ambassador Nicolas Galey emphasised the global significance of environmental conservation and the need for international cooperation to address environmental challenges. Dr. Altaf Abro, head of mission at Secours Islamique France, expressed his satisfaction with the successful event and reaffirmed SIF's dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
