LAHORE: The College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences organised an Orthoptist Day event for public awareness. Orthoptists provide eye care and support for a range of visual challenges. From blurred vision to eye movement disorders, they play an important role. Their non-surgical methods include prescription lenses, patching therapy for amblyopia, use of prisms, and tailored exercises.

Principal College of Ophthalmology Prof Muhammad Moin, Prof Emeritus Dr Asad Aslam, Prof Dr Ali Ayaz, Prof Dr Syed Raza Ali Shah, Prof Dr Nasir Chaudhry, other faculty and students participated in the event.

Prof Dr Moin as an Ophthalmologist said Orthoptists look at the effects of the eyes. His expertise in visual disorders, designing disease-specific exercises plays an important role in improving the quality of life of patients.

Prof Emeritus Dr Asad Aslam said orthopedics deals with the complications of eye movement disorders, vision, and visual development. Orthoptists help to enhance visual function and prevent long-term complications.

They work side by side in managing conditions like amblyopia and strabismus, said Prof Dr Ali Ayaz Sadiq in Pediatric Ophthalmology. Whether it's patching therapy or teaching eye exercises, orthoptists make a lasting impact on children's vision.
